Julia’s Kaiut yoga class has helped me work through chronic lower back pain that physical therapy could not help me with. It has helped me gain flexibility and strength without pain that I did not have before. And most of all, when I get up in the morning I am without lower back pain. It has helped me both in professional and personal life no question. With each practice I can feel my lower back getting stronger and flexible. It is helping to alleviate lower back pain and discomfort I am experiencing. It is helping my posture along with refreshing the body and mind! I hate to miss a class now…

I have multiple sclerosis and Julia O’Shea’s Kaiut yoga class (“Yoga for Chronic Conditions”) is essential to me and my health. After class I feel stronger and more balanced. I often don’t need to use my cane for a day or two. I am so glad I discover Julia’s class.

My experience with Kaiut yoga has been brief but very significant. I look forward to my weekly class because the environment is very friendly, unpretentious and fun. I don’t feel like we’re competing among ourselves. It doesn’t make me feel inadequate because of my physical limitations. Instead, it empowers me and makes me feel like maybe I can get better and stronger. That measure of hope is crucial for folks with chronic conditions. Julia makes the classes both very pleasant and very motivating. It’s a “come as you are” class that allows me to participate without having to make excuses for things I cannot do. A very inclusive experience and I recommend it to everyone who needs to keep active in spite of pain, treatments or injuries.

Julia OShea is a wonderful yoga teacher, beyond that, as a retired teacher I can say with confidence that she is a great teacher. She welcomes every student with a greeting and a smile. She is patient in the face of the variety of student abilities in her class and is easily able to modify poses when necessary. She uses humor to help the class along and help us to exceed what we thought we could do. For myself, I now am getting up early in the morning and doing a yoga routine based on the classes Julia is teaching. I have noticed a significant improvement in flexibility. The arthritis pain in my knees seems to be easier to tolerate as I continue with my yoga practice, especially when I am walking my dog. Kudos to Julia.

When I first started Julia’s class, I had just started chemotherapy for non hodgkin’s lymphoma. I had always thought doing yoga would be good for me because I am a person constantly on the go and feeling I need to go go go and never relax. Being able to try the class for free and knowing it was for people with varied conditions was my first draw to the class. Its been almost two years since I started with those first classes Julia taught. I soon learned that years and years of stress on my body from work, running and life had caused a lot of issues. Yoga hasn’t fixed everything but it certainly has allowed me to learn more about my body and how important it is to stretch, relax and be present in the moments. Although I am still in treatment, I have started exercising again and also have had less joint and muscle pain from less stiffness and listening to my body. I feel better at work and my day to day life. If I had to stop this program, it would be difficult if not unrealistic to try to duplicate these benefits and I’d probably be back to square one. Lastly Julia is an amazing instructor. She is calm and has a wonderful sense of humor with our group. She really makes a point to get to know everyone and what works for them. I am so thankful she’s been able to offer this program.
